Originally manifested in 2004, Primary Drive first hit the music scene in Ohio. After a few years of playing in Ohio, CJ moved back to New Jersey and put together Primary Drive’s current line up in the summer of 2008. For CJ, growing up in Pittsburgh was the best and becoming a member of a rock band was inevitable and it was apparent that CJ would not end up laboring in the steel refineries. Influenced by the monster rockers of the 70s and 80s, CJ spent his teen years jamming along with recordings of Led Zeppelin, KISS, Motley Crue, Metallica, Aerosmith, and Van Halen. Having jammed with many talented artists in previous bands in Pittsburgh and Ohio, it is easy to see why he has the throne in Primary Drive. CJ's heavy banging talents are natural for Primary Drive's no bullshit edge. Joe, CJ’s brother-in-law, have talked many times over the years about getting together to jam but due to their schedules were not able to make this happen for some time. Growing up listening to his fathers LP’s and eight tracks of Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, and Pink Floyd created his desire for music. Joe was drawn to the thumping bass sound. Not being able to buy his own bass at the time, he would play around with his friends’ bass. A few years later, Joe had an accident at work on a meat slicer, losing the tip of his left middle finger. This put a stop to his learning. A few years went by before he even considered picking up a bass, and when he did the passion was uncontrollable and he learned how to play with his missing finger tip. In the winter of 2007 when CJ moved back to New Jersey, they were able to finally get together for a jam session. There was an immediate bond between the two and decided to reform Primary Drive. Shawn, a childhood friend of Joe, started his music career on bass. At the age of 16, Shawn bought a Warlock bass because he liked the way it looked. He didn’t know how to play but he pounded away until finally it sounded good enough to audition for a band. A few years later Shawn switched to guitar because he felt his talent was being limited on bass. As soon as he picked up a guitar it was natural, the music just flowed with melody. Since then, Shawn has played in several bands from different genres that he liked. Joe called Shawn up one day in early July to come jam with them and the chemistry between them was automatic. They fed off each others energy, which is now the sound of Primary Drive. With the rest of the band set, the quest for a front man had begun. With several auditions underway, they could not find a singer that matched their attitude and sound. Jason is a front man with talent, energy, balls, and most importantly, chemistry. A front man who would breathe, eat, sleep, and shit Primary Drive Bands with attitude of Primary Drive don’t grow on trees, and neither do people like Jason. Before becoming the front man, Jason was the drummer for a KISS Tribute band in New Jersey. Jason, another brother-in-law of CJ and Joe, grew up listening to music of the 70s and 80s, and KISS was the main reason for his interest in music. One day in late July 2008, the band set an audition with yet another singer, to their dismay did not show up. Jason was there hanging out with the guys that day and they looked at him and said, “fuck it dude, grab the mic, you’re singing tonight. Jason fell in love with singing and it showed by his actions behind the mic. As for the present of Primary Drive, the guys are working on a new material which will be out by early spring 2009. The band is currently booking shows all over the Philadelphia Tri-State area proving to be one of the hardest working local bands in the area.
